iwillbowtonoone: heres an interview i did a couple of days back with johnny french, guitarist of barnstaples “chapters of eden”. me - what is your name and what part do you play in the band? johnny - johnny french - guitar. me - when was the band formed? johnny - we formed in september of 2010 when members of our last band dissenstion after a series of fallouts with the vocalist, so we started again with all the same members except the vocalist. me - who came up with naming the band “chapters of eden”? johnny - we came up with the name of the band together while we were recording our first ep in bristol with chuck creese. it kind of means the good times in a way, before things got so fucked up! me - which bands/artists influence you personally? johnny - i think as a band we all take inspiration from a lot of different bands and artists but for me personally I take a lot of inspiration from so many different bands that it would be impossible to name any one in particular. that must be a pretty boring answer though haha. me - what is the scene like around barnstaple? and is there any other local talent from around the area? johnny - the scene is pretty good here right now, there is a lot of support for the local bands, black hole promotions put on the majority of the shows here and we are all really grateful for that. in terms of other local talent there is a lot of good bands about, the dead betas are a pretty good local band, they put on a pretty mental performance! The front man tobias runs black hole promotions. me - i understand youve recently released a brand new ep entitled “i am alive”, what has the response been like for it so far? johnny - yeah we just released “i am alive” and so far the response has been insane! we have had so much good feedback and have frequently been compared to parkway drive which is such a huge compliment to us all as we are massive fans! me - when it comes down to writing the songs, what is the bands songwriting process, and how do the songs usually come about? johnny - when it comes to writing what normally happens is we will all work on some riffs and ideas in our own time for a while and then all get together and just sit and work on a new track or two section by section until we feel happy with what we have. i write the majority of the lyrics although it definitely is a group effort at times. me - what was the first song you wrote together as a band? johnny - the first song that we wrote was “from the old” it is all about moving on from the old band and what we were doing before to where we are now, with a few unsubtle references aimed at the vocalist of the old band haha. me - do you have any upcoming shows/tours in the near future? johnny - we have a few shows coming up, our next one is at the live bar in truro with envy the fallen & olympian on march 16th and we are pretty stoked for that! me - what has been your favourite show to date? johnny - my favourite show so far has to be last weekends, We played at betafest as main support for inme! that was pretty surreal for me as I was listening to them when I was still in school! me - what should someone expect from a “chapters of eden” show? johnny - you can expect a lot of aggression and energy, some chilled moments and buckets of sweat. me - so what are the overall plans for the band for 2012? johnny - this year our main plan really is to push ourselves out their and start playing shows all over the uk hopefully doing a couple tours. we are also aiming to record a full length album towards the end of this year and possibly do another music video. also we have a cheeky cover coming out very soon which we are looking forward to people hearing! me - thank you for your time! johnny - no worries, cheers man! check the band out on facebook, their brand new ep “i am alive” is available for free download on their bandpage so have at it - www.facebook.com/chaptersofeden also check out the bands awesome new video for “primitive” here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpEeN—-AqQ&feature=youtu.be
